A lot of people come into Camp Catskill with the same basic idea: they want to get outside, but they’re not totally sure where to start.
Maybe they’re only here for the weekend. Maybe they want a hike with a view, or something easier they can do with kids. Maybe they packed for “spring” and then realized it still feels like winter once you get up into the mountains.
That part is normal.
The Catskills are beautiful, but they’re not always obvious. Trailheads can be easy to miss. Conditions can change fast. A hike that sounds simple online can feel like a different story once you’re actually on it.
That's where we come in.
When people stop in, we usually start with a few simple questions. How much time do you have? What kind of hike are you in the mood for? Big payoff, or just a quiet walk in the woods? Once we know that, it’s a lot easier to point you in the right direction.
Sometimes what people need is a trail recommendation. Sometimes it’s a better layer, a waterproof shoe, or traction for an icy stretch. A lot of the time, it’s just a quick conversation with someone who knows the area.
That’s really the idea behind Camp Catskill.
Yes, we sell gear and clothing. But the bigger thing is helping people feel more comfortable getting outside. More prepared. More confident. Less like they’re guessing.
And when that goes well, people usually want to do it again.
That may be an easy walk to a waterfall, a first real hike to a Catskills summit, or just feeling like you packed the right stuff and knew what you were getting into. It doesn’t have to be epic to matter.
If you’re looking to get outside but aren’t quite sure where to go, start here. Stop in and we’ll help you figure it out.
